Using a light trap, we collected insects throughout the night at the early, middle and late periods of each month from April to December, 1955, at a farm in Johoku distirct. Insects were also collected at one and a half hour interval all through the night at a coast farm in Wake district on August, 18, 1955. Both of the farms are located in Matsuyama City. The seasonal variation of each family of all insects gathering to the light are shown in Figure 1. Among all the orders of insects, Diptera (Tendipedidae, Psychodidae, Ceratopogonidae and Culicidae are noticeable) appeared most abundantly (40-100% of all the insects) throughout the period of this investigation. Next to it comes the abundance of Lepidoptera (0-34%) and Hemiptera (0-26%). The periodicity of the seasonal increase and decrease of the insects seems to be effected by the lunar cycle. The majority of all the insects attracted to the light and collected hourly throughout the night, were caught around midnight with the exception of Lepidoptera and Heteroptera, the greatest number of which appeared during a few hours after sunset as shown in Figure 2.
