Generally speaking, the amount of blow holes in the welded part has influence on the tensile strength of the welded joint. The tensile strength, however of the welded joints which apparently include the equal amount of blow holes is often widely different. This fact is mostly due to the amount of the phosphor content in the deposit metal. The phosphor content of the deposit metal sometimes has tendency to become higher than that of the welding rod and even that amount of increase differs to various extent. When the phosphor content of the mother metal is excessive, that of the deposit metal tends to increase, too. Accordingly. the author considers that by these facts above mensioned, the phosphor content of the welded part increases, and that increases makes the tensile strength of the welded joint lower. Though it may be very bold to conclude by so few experiments, the author considers that the phosphor conte nt of the welding rod should be less than 0.025%.
