The present paper takes into consideration the stress field in the vicinity of the root of the first-pass weld and the notch of the Implant specimen. A new parameter, analogical to the stress intensity factor, is defined and proposed as a stress controlling factor for weld hydrogen cracking. The effects of various geometric factors on this parameter are determined by using the finite element analysis technique. The parameter is applied to correlate the recent Implant, RRC and TRC test results of the authors.
