Further analysis of the hole-entering behavior of the secondary freshwater goby (Tridentiger obscurus) was made by using tubular objects with square, rectangular, and triangular openings, as well as cylindrical tubular objects. The factors influencing the behavior were investigated with regard to position, shape and size of the object. The gobies preferred lower-positioned objects, i. e., the entering frequency decreased in an object placed higher than about 6 cm. They tended to enter larger objects rather than smaller objects. The frequency of hole-entering was proportional to the area of the opening. When the gobies were placed in visual contact with objects of which the actual size was equal but the apparent size was different, they chose the larger-appearing object. This suggests that the reason why the gobies preferred the larger objects is not necessarily due to ease of entering.
