The effect of light on the formation of the eupyrene and apyrene sperm bundles in the silkworm Bombyx mori, was studied. Materials used were four batches of two pure races, which were incubated at the Sericultural Laboratory of Miyagi Prefecture. Each of the batches of newly hatched silkworm was divided into two groups, and then cultured in the dark or under ordinary light conditions respectively. The ratio of eupyrene sperm bundles to apyrene was always high in the group cultured under ordinary light conditions in comparison with that of the dark. The eupyrene sperm bundle was also longer under the former conditions than under the latter.
