This paper is mainly concerned with some notes on Irona melanosticta parasitic on Hemiramphus sajori (T. & S.) and its influence on the hosts. Four lots of H. sajori specimens consisting of 251 individuals collected from both Tokyo and Sagami Bays during May 4 to Sept. 20, 1953, were examined. 141 specimens (56.2%) of these lots were found to have the isopod under investigation as parasites. The percentage of fishes on which the isopods are parasitic run from 48.9 to 70.2 for four lots of the speciments. With regard to the parasite-mode, 3 types, that is to say, a single female; a pair of female and male; and a single male, were recognized to exist, the first being the most and the last being the least. Concerning the influence of the parasites on condition factor of the hosts, it may be said that there is not always such an influence so far as the present investigation goes as can be seen in Table 3. But it would be concluded that the parasitism by the isopod exerts an inhibitory effect on the development of gonad of the female.
