Morphological descriptions of Raillietina (Raillietina) echinobothrida from various districts of the world have already been done by many authors. But most of them were almost the same as the imperfect description of Molin (1858). Recently, the present author has carefully studied morphological features of the species in question. The following are general diagnosis of the species. Body 110-150mm long and 1.5-3mm broad (Table 1). The scolex (Fig. 1), 490-550μ broad, with a retractile rostellum of 100-140μ by 100-125μ, bears a crown of about 200 hooklets, which are 12-13μ long and arranged in two rows. Four oval suckers are 160-210μ by 130-170μ and armed with 10-13 rows of various sized hooklets, of which the largest ones, i. e. 20μ in length, are found in the middle rows, and the medium sized ones are encountered in the outer rows, measuring 8μ in their average length. The inner rows consist of smallest hooklets of about 4μ. The neck is 490-550μ broad and slightly smaller than the width of the scolex. Genital pores (Fig. 2.) are usually unilateral, but sometimes irregularly lateral, one in each segment, situating in posterior half of lateral margin of the segment (Table 2). The testes, 25-45 in number, and the most of which lie on aboral side of each proglottis. The cirrus pouch is pyriform, measuring 150-165μ in length. The ovary is in median field of each segment and finely lobulated in outline. Yolk glands, somewhat irregular reniform, are situated posteriorly to the ovary, with its longer axis directed transversely. Gravid segment (Fig. 3) is filled with egg-pouches, each of which is surrounded by a transparent membrane, containing 3-8 eggs. When a senile segment (Fig. 4) is expelled with feces, it splits longitudinally into two parts. This peculiar behavior is characteristic of this tapeworm. The egg is surrounded with three envelopes, the outermost of which measures 72-84μ by 72-76μ. As to the shape of the onchosphere, refer to the previous note of Sawada (1953) [Zool. Mag. 62 (6) pp. 202-204].
