1) The action of nicotine on the intact heart of Polycitor mutabilis has been observed. 2) High concentrations of nicotine produce a remarkable negative chronotropic action and induce aberrant rhythms. While, low concentrations cause an increase in the rate of abvisceral heartbeats, and they hardly have an action on the frequency of advisceral heart-beats (Table 1). 3) The effect of high concentration of nicotine is very noticeable and it persists for more than 24 hours. 4) The direction of heart beat reverses very often by the application of nicotine and the conflicting pulsation sometimes occurs at high concentrations.
