概要

Limnochares aquatica is found in marshes st Hisagonuma, Mt. Daisetsu and Toyokoro, Tokachi in Hokkaido. Eggs reddish brown in colour, round in shape are laid on leaves of water plants in about the middle of June. Larvae creep out of the schadonophan early in July, 25 days after egglaying. Larvae always floating on the water surface, run swiftly, but do not jump. The larvae soon become parasitic on the water-skaters, Aquarius palludum FABRICIUS and Limnoporus rufoscutellatus LATREILLE, and then metamorphose into the nymphochrysalis. In due time the nymphochrvsalis runs into marsh water again, and later changes into the nymphophan. Nymphs abundantly appear in late summer or autumn. Imagines are found among water plants near shore during the breeding season.
