The author made some ligation-experiments in the 4th-and 5th-instar larvae of the silkworm and examined the relation that exists between the growth of the silkglands and the metamorphosis. According to the results obtained, the acceleration of the growth of the silkglands is caused by disappearance of the corpus allatum hromone, and seems to be partly influenced by the action of the prothoracic gland hormone, which otherwise plays an important role in the metamorphosis. In a previous paper, the author supposed that it was the natural decline of the function of corpora allata that brought about the changes at the middle critical point established by the study of relative growth of the 5th instar larvae. This supposition seems to be corroborated by the ligation-experiments reported in this paper.
