In the first paper of this series of works the author stated that the carrier pigeons might be in the 'steady state' as they were flying in the sky without any restriction. In the present paper this fact was pursued experimentally by determining the blood lactic acid immediately after the flying for 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes respectively; the material used was 12 carrier pigeons having been trained quite satisfactorily; and the method used in the lactic acid determination was the same as described in the preceding paper by the author. As the results of the experiment, no significant difference was detected among the amounts of lactic acid increase effected by the series of flyings, so far as the mean blood lactic acid content was concerned. It was, therefore, ascertained that the birds might be in the 'steady state' of bodily condition as they were flying in the sky with no restriction. the level of blood lactic acid in this state being slightly higher than that in the rest. The excess of lactic acid was found to be removed in about 15 minutes after the cessation of flying. This work was done under the direction of Prof. M. TANGE.
