Blastula nuclei of Rana nigromaculata, R. brevipoda, R. rugosa, R. pipiens, Hyla arborea japonica, Bombina orientalis and Cynops pyrrhogaster were transplanted into unfertilized or enucleated Rana nigromaculata eggs, and their behavior was cytologically examined in the early developmental stage. Rana brevipoda nuclei were almost similar to Rana nigromaculata nuclei in the activity performed in unfertilized or enucleated eggs. While Rana rugosa or Rana pipiens nuclei transplanted into unfertilized eggs were similar in activity to Rana nigromaculata or Rana brevipoda nuclei at least until the two-cell stage, those nuclei transplanted into enucleated eggs were distinctly lower in activity. Hyla arborea japonica nuclei transplanted into unfertilized or enucleated eggs were almost similar in activity to Rana regosa or Rana pipiens nuclei at the earliest stage of development. However, their function became distinctly lower 75min after transplantation. Bombina orientalis nuclei transplanted into unfertilized or enucleated eggs were lower in activity than Rana rugosa or Rana pipiens nuclei from the start of development. Bombina orientalis nuclei became degenerative in enucleated eggs shortly after transplantation. All the Cynops pyrrhogaster nuclei became degenerative in either unfertilized or enucleated eggs soon after transplantation.
