The androgenic activities of androsterone, methyltestosterone, testosterone propionate, and testosterone were evaluated by their ability to produce the secondary sex character papillar processes in a teleost, the medaka (30-33mm body length). The steroids were consecutively administered per os for 15 days. The median effective doses (ED_<50>'s) of these steroids necessary to induce papillar processes on the anal fin were 4.3μg (methyltestosterone), 250μg (androsterone), 300μg (testosterone propionate), and 650μg (testosterone) per gram of food. Therefore, methyltestosterone has the strongest potency among them. There is a certain parallelism in the relation between androgenic and androtevmonic potencies. The administration of these steroids did not impair the fertility of females. The females treated produced offspring by mating with normal males.
