Triops longicaudatus (LECONTE) in Japan has two different races; one consisting of both sexes and the other containing no males. The females of the former race have a pair of reproductive organs, each consisting of an oviduct and follicle ducts with numerous ova at the ends. Mature eggs are pushed out from the gonopore at the base of the first endopodite of the eleventh appendage after passing through the efferent oviduct, and then enter the brood pouch. The males of the race consisting of both sexes have a pair of reproductive organs, each of which is constructed of many testis lobes connected with seminiferous ducts and a vas deferens. Spermatozoa ejected from the gonopore in the same position as that of the female and either attach to the eggs that have left the efferent oviduct of get directly into the brood pouch. The chromosome number of spermatogonia and oogonia of this race is 12, and that of oocytes 6. The chromosome number of spermatocytes in the testis lobes of ovotestes in the other race is 6. The process of copulation within the same race and that observed between the two races are almost identical. Although copulation occurs between the two races, no hybrids are produced. The race containing no males consists of two kinds of individuals; one has well-developed testis lobes connected with follicle ducts, while the other has rudiments of the testis lobe.
