The distribution of acid phosphatase in the crayfish kidney tissue was investigated by Gomori's method in combination with electron microscopy. The distribution of the enzyme was altered when the crayfish was kept in a hypertonic saline. In normal animals, the reaction product for acid phosphatase was found on basal infoldings, intercellular spaces and basement lamina, but not in cytoplasmic ground substance and in any of the cell organellae. In the kidney tissue of crayfish kept in the hypertonic solution, a conspicuous precipitation of reaction product was found on the region of microvilli and lysosome-like bodies of labyrinth cells. It seemed probable that the activity of acid phosphatase in the kidney cells was involved in osmoregulation of the animal.
