Radiosensitivity, based a criterion of emergence rate, falls down gradually from the time the time of puparium formation to 22 hours of age. During these stages, a periodical change in sensitivity is observed (Fig. 1). After 22 hours of age the radiosensitivity rises with the progress of development and reaches to the maximum at 42-48 hours of age. Thereafter it drops off rapidly. The LD_50 at 1±1, 22±1, and 46±1 hours of age are 750, 900 and 625R respectively (Fig. 2). The formation of several tissues such as eyes, bristles and muscles is depressed more severely when irradiated in younger stages (Figs. 3 and 4). We have no evidence that the endocrine system is the target organ for the suppression of tissue formation. For example, the head irradiation does not disturb the histogenesis in thorax and abdomen (Fig. 6), and an injection of inokosterone cannot raise the emergence rate of the irradiated pupae (Table 1). There is a possibility that the amount of damage observed in the nervous system corresponds to the radiosensitivity.
