This research aims to express genetic regulatory networks by functional differential equations or delay differential equations (DDE), and provide a systematic method to construct the genetic network from a set of temporal data and further analyse the nonlinear properties of the model in terms of local stability and bifurcation. We first use a simplified dynamic model of genetic regulation with autoregulatory feedback loop to analyse the circadian rhythm by using singular perturbation theory. Then, we propose a DDE model for the genetic regulatory network, which not only expresses concentrations of proteins and mRNAs in a nonlinear manner, but also takes time delays of transcription and translation into consideration of gene expression, and analyse the local stability and bifurcation so as to provide comprehensive information to understand about the gene expression patterns and the regulatory pathways.
