The interferometric synthetic aperture radiometer (ISAR) is a new instrument to acquire the 2-D imaging information without scanning for earth remote sensing application. For sea salinity measurement, the Y-typ interferometric synthetic aperture radiometer at L-band for MIRAS at ESA is under development. In this paper, new type of sub-Y type interferometric synthetic aperture radiometer is introduced and the performance characteristics of measurement are presented. Especially the improved antenna array configuration shows more than 30% reduction of antenna element numbers for same imaging resolution compare with the Y-type ISAR. The proposed ideas are evaluated by experimental interferometer at 37 GHz.
