This paper presents an automated attack for cryptanalysis of bandsplitter-based speech scramblers. In the proposed system, the discrete keys are imbedded in a continuous keyspace and the key search is realized in the maximum likelihood estimation process. For greater efficiency, the original cryptanalysis issue is formulated as one of the perfect matching problem that leads to search for the permutation associated with the maximum likelihood. Furthermore, we also develop a genetic-based approach to account for the doubly stochastic constraint of the underlying keyspace. It is shown that our proposed approach appears useful in breaking the bandsplitter-based speech scramblers with fixed as well as varying permutation.
