This paper deals with the performance evaluation of a CDMA system in which spread spectrum signals with different data rates are transmitted to a base station within the same bandwidth. The analysis considers the employment of an interference cancellation scheme, and then the bit error rate is evaluated with emphasis on the viewpoint of the characteristics of multiple access interference from the signals with various rates. Finally, total system capacity, as well as data throughput and the maximum number of users system can suffer, is proposed as a performance measure for this multi processing-gain CDMA system.
