Hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) network is a new developed architecture for providing interactive video/multimedia services. In this study, a modeling procedure is presented to extract the primary constants (R, L, C, and G) of coaxial cables from the measured S-parameters. Based on the RLCG cable model, time- and frequency- domain characteristics of coaxial cables can be observed and accurately simulated by software. This will be helpful on development of digital cable modem for HFC networks.
