High Luminous Flat Panel Fluorescent Lamp for LCD-Backlight

Developed are planar luminaries with external electrode fluorescent lamps(EEFLs)arrayed on a Bat panel for the LCD-backlight of PC monitors. or TV. EEFLs are fluorescent tubes that employ a metal tape wrapped outside of the glass tube ends as their electrodes. EEFLs can be powered by a single power source from which all the tube electrodes are connected in parallel, so that uniform brightness can be obtained over the whole panel. In this report two models of nat panels are proposed with the direct lighting of EEFLs. One is an array of the EEFLs. The other is the flat fluorescent lamp using the self-lighting EEFLs, which also serves as spacers and barriers as well between an upper and a lower fluorescent glass plate. In these flat luminaries we have obtained the high brightness about 10,000 cd/m^2 with the efficiency of above 10 lm/W, which ensures their potential as promising LCD-backlight sources.
