The transmission of continuos media such as video and voice imposes not only the guarantee of the quality of service (QOS) of each stream but also the preservation of the temporal relationships among media streams. In the great majority of the literature. theses problems are addressed separately. The authors deal with a dynamic video resolution control scheme to avoid serious degradation of QOS in[1]. On the other hand. they proposed a media synchronization mechanism to preserve the temporal relationships among streams[2]. This paper studies the dynamic resolution control scheme for a variable bit rate (VBR) video stream which is synchronized with a voice stream. In the scheme we dynamically change the spatial resolution of video according to the network loads. When audio and video streams are outputted the media synchronization mechanism in [2] is used. By simulation. we evaluate the performance in terms of throughput. loss rate, average delay. and mean square error of synchronization. We thus demonstrate the effectiveness of the spatial resolution control scheme (referred to as the spatial scheme) in media-synchronized multimedia communications.
