The demand for high data rate communication and the problem of the congestion of lower frequencies encourage the use of optical wave and mm-wave (millimetre wave) interaction systems. One of these interaction systems is the radio on fibre system. The proposed configration of the radio on fibre system is shown in Figure 1. The diplexer selects one of the sidebands for radiation by the patch antenna and the also selects mm-wave carrier in order to realise a duplex antenna link. In the receiver part of the down link, the mm-wave carrier and signal are mixed tigether in order to produce an IF (Intermediate Frequency) data signal. The IF data signal can be modulated by a low-cost LD (Laser Diode). By using a diplexer-antenna, cost-effective and duplex antenna links can be achived. This paper presents the design and the experimental results of a new-shaped diplexer-abtenna operating at 10GHz.
