A medium frequency is generally considered in ultra-wide bandwidth(UWB)antenna design to indicate the effective bandwidth, which is characterized merely by the duration of excitation pulse. For excitation pulses of generators with peaking-chopping switches, different rising and falling edges of the pulse can be achieved for same pulse duration so that such a definition of medium frequency need to be modified. A new definition of the medium frequency accounting for detailed waveform information such as the rising and falling edges of the pulse waveform is proposed in the present paper. The present definition shows better correspondence to both the theoretical and practical radiation spectrum.
