The Polish revolutionary and ethnologist Bronislaw Pilsudski (1866-1918) stayed in Japan from the end of 1905 to August of the following year. In this paper I considered his activities in Japan from the viewpoint of the history of Russo-Japanese and Polish-Japanese relations according to the following six items: 1. During the Sakhalin period in the summer of 1903, together with the Polish writer and ethnologist W. Sieroszewski he made a trip to Hokkaido to investigate Hokkaido Ainus. 2. He assisted in the agitation of Russian prisoners of the Russo-Japanese war against the Russian empire and in the publication of a Russian newspaper "Volja" ("Liberty") by a Russian revolutionary refugee named N. Russel. Also he made contact with Chinese revolutionaries, living in Japan. 3. He closely associated with a Japanese novelist and translator Futabatei Shimei and organized with him the Japanese-Polish socicty. 4. He associated with a Japanese journalist and specialist in the lower classes Yokoyama Gennosuke. Yokoyama wrote biographical sketches about Russel and a female "narodnik" L. Volkenshtein, which were based upon what Yokoyama had heard from Pilsudski. 5. He made contact with Japanese socialists. In 1914 in Brussels he met one of them again, Ishikawa Sanshiro. 6. He made contact with Japanese anthropologists and specialists of the Ainu. Pilsudski's paper "The situation of the Sakhalin Ainu" was published in Japanese in the Japanese magazine.
