Vibrations of axially polarized axisymmetric piezoelectric vibrators are analyzed by means of the finite element method. In order to derive the transient responses in piezoelectric problems, the joint use of the modal analysis with the finite element method is tried and its validity is confirmed. Free vibrations of the vibrator are analyzed for its various geometries. The vibrational properties obtained are compared and examined with those obtained by the one-dimensional solution and the thin plate theory. Influences of partially plated area and partially loaded area on the properties of the vibrator are also investigated in detail. Furthermore, the transient responses of the vibrator are obtained by the joint use of the modal analysis for with the finite element method.
