From the clinical, histological and roentgenological points of view, the author reports in detail 7 typical examples of polycystic kidney which habe been recently experienced in our clinic. 1) Polycystic kidney is common to all ages, but it is most frequently met with in the age of 30-50. It occurs in 1 per cent of all renal diseases in our clinic. 2) Polycystic kidney seems to bear no relation to sexuality, but predisposition through heredity may be believed to habe a certain degree of influence. 3) This disease is, as a rule, bilateral, although one kidney is usually found more extensively affected. If it is unilateral, that on the left side appears to be more commonly affected. However such cases are rare. 4) The appearance under microscopic examination is very similar to renal atrophy without multiple cysts, 5) The patient first of all usually points out unilateral or bilateral tumours in his abdomen, secondarily he indicates ordinarily symptoms similar to those of renal atrophy. 6) The urine is usually clear and abundant. Its reaction is generally acid and its specific gravity is always low. The urine is also free from cells and casts as a rule, while almost always containing a slight trace of albumin. But there are variant cases. 7) The result of the functional renal tests is almost in accordance with the pyelogram, but it is not invariably so. 8) The functional renal tests of polycystic kidney is usually bad. 9) Changes in the circulatory system are the same as in renal atrophy. 10) The following shows pyelogramical results. Maior axis : [table] Outside limit : [table] Inside limit [table] Degree of angular divergence : An angle between the median line and the major axis is not beyond the normal rates in the maximum limit. In the other words, the major axis approaches parallelism to the median line. 11) Lurzs phenomenon is all negative.
