It has been inferred as an evidence of earth movement during the Post-glacial epoch that the Late Quaternary deposits in the Niigata Lowland are thicker than other typical low lands in Japan. In this paper, the writers discussed the subdivision of the Post-glacial deposits buried beneath the coastal and fluvial plains of this area and correlation them with those of other areas based on the micropaleontological analyses and absolute chronology by the radio-carbon method. The thick deposits are considered to have been formed under control of the sea-level fluctuations during the Post-glacial epoch without any effect of the tectonic movements.
