Since old times, much attention has been paid to the fact that faults are frequently observed to appear on the ground surface in connection with the occurrence of the earthquakes. Causal relation between these two events, however, was not accurately comprehended until recent time. Rapid improvements in observational techniques and international co-opcrative works on geophysics after the World War II have led us to an entirely new concept of the earth's evolution. It has also revealed the fact that the fault and seismic source are identical against an antique concept that one of which is the cause of the other. Faults found in geological formation are nothing but "fossils" of earthquakes in the geological past. It is true that seismology has played an important rolls for the contemporary understanding about the earth, however, it should also be noted that the data supplied by the modern seismic observation are only restricted to those of these few decades of yeare. There might be away to look back into the activity of the crust in the geological past through the fossils of earthquakes. The most informations might be lost in the fossil. However, it is a precious feature that modern seismology can not attain that seismic foci can be inspected any closely. The known simple regularity in the size of the earthquakes and an interpretation of the author are herein introduced for approval or disapproval of the field geologists.
