Quaternary strata are distributed covering unconformably on the pre-Quaternary system in the Ryukyu Islands. These strata are deposited in these dimentary basins formed by their uplift erosion of the basement rocks and by the fault movements of NW-SE trend which cut the upper Miocene to lower Pleistocene Shimajiri Group and also pre-Tertiary basement rocks. The tectonic trend shows NW-SE direction, and these sedimentary basins are blocked and segmented by the crustal movemment of the same directions. Thus, there are two main stages for the movements forming these sedimentary basins, and these movements are generally called as the Uruma crustal movement. The strata distributing in these sedimentary basins are called the Ryukyu Group, and they are made up of noncalcareous Kunigami Gravel Bed and calcareous Ryukyu Lime stone. They contact with interfingured relationship each other.
