A statistical survey was made of the pH of saliva, the potassium rhodanate content of salive, and the interrelation between the averaged number of decayed and deficient teeth and the potassium rhodanate content of saliva in severl groups into which apparently healthy out-patients and their attendants, totalling 137, -66 male and 71 female, aged 11 to 35-were divided according to age and sex and according as each individual is a smoker or a nonsmoker. Result 1. The pH of saliva was not varied according to age and sex 2. The potassium rhodanate content of saliva was greater for smokers than for nonsmokers. 3. Salivary potassium rhodanate was ws found to increase rapidly at 10 or more for males and of 20 or more for females, to increase with age later for females, and to decrease at 40 or more for both sexes. 3. No interrelation was recognizable among the pH of saliva and the potassium rhodanate content of saliva and the number of decayed and deficient teeth. 4. No interrelation was noted between smoking and the number of decayed and deficient teeth.
