In order to investigate bacteria deposition on elastic lining materials (Visco-gel and Neosnugger), a basic study of bacteria was made clinically, and chronological changes in kinds and number of colonies were examined by collecting deposited bacteria by tapes and by the isolation culture method (after one, two, three weeks) after setting of the lining materials. The results were as follows : 1. In the bacteria growth-inhibiting test, Visco-gel did not show any inhibited growth zone. Neosnugger did not show any inhibited growth zone in the base but showed a small inhibited growth zone in the catalyst, and showed a small inhibited growth zone immediately and one hour after mixing of base and catalyst. Quick Acron also showed an inhibited growth zone, which was larger than that by Neosnugger. 2. In an immersion test in a bacteria cultivation solution of Visco-gel, Neosnugger, and Quick Acron, Neosnugger showed discoloration, Visco-gel discoloration, expansion, and surface changes, and Quick Acron no changes. 3. With time elapse of one, two and three weeks after setting of the elastic lining materials, colonies increased in number and discoloration, surface changes, and offensive odor accompanied. 4. No significant difference was observed between the aerobic and anaerobic cultures. 5. The number of colonies was large in Visco-gel, Neosnugger, and Quick Acron, in that order. 6. The number of colonies was larger in the central mucosa of the palate than in the mucosa of the alveolar ridge. The indication was significant in Visco-gel than in Neosnugger and in full denture than in partial denture. 7. Great personal differences made determination difficult of subjective difference between full denture and partial denture.
