国立国会図書館蔵『けんもつさうし』は江戸初期の殉死事件を題材とした物語である。この事件は慶長十二年三月五日，尾張清須城主松平忠吉が江戸芝にて病死（関ケ原の合戦で負った疵がもととされる）したことを発端とし，その家臣で男色の相手でもあった小笠原監物がその折居住していた奥州松島から上京して，殉死を遂げるに至る。これは近世の殉死の嚆矢とされ，大きな社会的反響を呼んだのである。この間の経違を軸に，忠吉の事績を付加し，全体をドラマチックに脚色した作品がここに翻刻紹介する『けんもつさうし』である。This report is a reprint of“Kenmotsu Soshi”in the possession of the National Diet Library and a commentary on it. “Kenmotsu Soshi”is a story which theme is Ogasawara Kenmotsu Tadashighe's killing himself on the death of his lord in the early years of the Edo Dre.Soon after Matsudaira Tadayoshi,who was the feudal lord of Kiyosu in Owari,died in Shiba,Edo on March 5th in 1607,Ogasawara Tadashige,who was his retainer,come to Edo from Matsushima,and killed himself.As it was the first social event after the civil war era,it created a great sensation.“Kenmotsu Soshi”is a dramatization of this event.
