The present paper analysed the content of the syllabus in the "Home Science" course during the Australian secondary education, and discussed the future possibility of introducing some points into the home economics education in Japan. The home science course in New South Wales, Australia provides for an integrated study of personal development and the family, nutrition and food, family economics, housing, management and consumer education. The studies in this course focus on the family as a functioning and dynamic unit of society and interrelationship with their environment and other cultures. The content area about clothing in Japanese home economics education belongs to a separate subject called "Textiles and Design".
