This article investigates English overseas trade in the eighteenth-century, based on Elizabeth Schumpeter's study. The foreign trade of eighteenth-century Britain is considered to be divided into two parts bordering on 1745. In the first half of the century, English domestic consumption of colonial goods was supported by re-exports. After 1745, the increasing British home consumption was financed by the English domestic exports of manufactured goods instead of re-exports.
