• This paper aims to clarify the social meaning of the call-in debate program in Taiwan. The program was supported widely at first. However, the criticism of the program has increased recently. In order to find out the reasons, we analyze the role of the program in the society through interpreting the public discussions about the program. We found that the broadcasting media could activate a social debate by the debate process in the program. The diversity of value in the society can be assured by such debate process. Therefore the public can reconsider political issues and reconstruct values and opinions.
