A new approach to the ordered multicategorical classificatior has been developed. The approach is based on the pattern recognition technique using simplex optimization. The ORMUCS method gives a single discriminant function for classification of the ordered multicategorical data. The ORMUCS method was compared with adaptive least square method(ALS method) in application to the classification problem of the ordered potency classes of antitumor mitomycin derivatives. In the full analysis and leave-one-out test, the ORMUCS method proved itself to be more stable than the ALS method for developing the discriminant function.
