In connection with hydrocarbon fermentations with two liquid phases, three problems in oxygen absorption into oil-water emulsions in the absense of organisms are briefly discussed : 1) concenptional difference between equilibvrium and mass transfer rate, 2) main path of oxygen transfer from gas bubbles into o/w and w/o emulsions, and3) somew characteristics of the batch and continuous methods to evaluate the volumetric coefficient for liquid phase oxygen transfer from gas bubbles into the emulsions. Two supplementary remarks are given on the continuous method previously used by the authors. From the comparison of the estimated values of the volumetric coefficient for oxygen transfer through the water film around gas bubbles and the volumetric coefficient for overall oxygen transfer from water into oil drops, it is concluded that the main resistance for the oxygen absorption into o/w emulsion in an agitated gas-liquid contactor exists in the water film around gas bubbles.
