The characteristics of the P.V.A. filter in terms of pressure drop of air flow and collection efficiency of air borne bacterial spores were studied previously.The effect of both the pore size (d_e, in μ) and thickness of this specific filter on the value of collection efficiency were discussed in this paper. Some considerations were given to a problem whether or not the so-called log penetration law can be applied in this particular disk-type of filter.In addition, an interesting phenomenon in which the bacterial spores are re-entrained into the air stream when the air velocity increased beyond a certain value was observed and discussed in this study.The experimental results are recapitulated as follows : 1) Pertaining to the case of linear velocity of air, υ_s=4.85 cm/sec for instance, the performances of the three sorts of filters (d_e=10〜20μ; 60〜80μ; 150〜200μ) were found to be 1 : 8000 : 13000,assuming that the degree of penetration (1〜η^-) of the filter with d_e=10〜20μ as unity.2) It is apparent from Figs. 3-2 and 3-1 that the log-penetration law can hold approximately true in a narrow range of filter thickness ; however, a slight deviation of the data points from the log-law was observed when the filter increased roughly beyond 10 mm in thickness.3) It has been made clear in the previous paper that the inertial effect became predominant in the collection of bacterial spores when the filter is operated in a velocity range between 10〜100 cm/sec.Consequently, it can be ssumed that the higher velocity of air may result in a higher efficiency of collection. Contrary to this assumption, the value of ^- decreased independent of the value of d_e, if the value of υ_s was more than about 115cm/sec. This fact may be ascribed to the phenomenon of "re-entrainment". Further experimentation and theoretical discussion are left open for acquiring much more valuable inbormation in desinging and operating the P.V.A. filter.
