In succession to previous papers concerning the cultural preperties of the Cladosporia, the morphological features, particularly of conidial characteristics and conidial developments were studies. In this report, eleven species and four formas among these fungi are covered. These conidia were divided into two spore-types of blastospore and radulaspore by the behavior the condium-growing point, and each type may represent a different system of the fungi. Besides C. marrocarpum, however, primitive radulaspore-type conidial developments were found in a strain of C. cladosporioides (Plate A-a) and C. resinae fa. viride (Fig. 11 G) of which the majoriry of the conidial developments were the blastospore-type. From these observations, it is supported that radulaspore-type sporulation must be distributed widely in this group. Therefore those having both types were treated as Cladosporia.Two strains used for C. cellare were different in the shape of basal conidia and the type of conidial development from the respective descriptions of Schanderl and of de Vries, although both strains show the typical conidial structure of the Cladopsoria therefore further classification was deferred. As C. coralloides and C. funiculosum had lost their individual characteristics cited in their original description, they were aligned with C. cladosporioides. And C. multigeniculatum characterized by geniculate apex of conidiophore has to be recoganized as C. herbarum, since this feature is typical for the latter and C. variabile, as cited by de Vries, and the conidia is warty. C. colocasiae was recoganized as a disticnt species which has elongate large conidia as well as C. fulvum.Almost conidia of the Cladosporia have more or less conspicuous disjunctor(s) and an example was presented in Plate F-a. In this case of C. herbarum, the disjunctor looks tubular and measures about 1μ in outside diameter and 0.2μ in thickness. Among these disjunctors, one in malformed as shown in Plate H-a.Some of the conidia are warty as in C. macrocarpum and C. herbarum. Those of C. cladosporioides are smooth or very finely verrucose and only visible with an oil immersion lens and the others are smooth. As show in Plate F-f, apical conidium which has only a hilum in one direction is nearly smooth. Since theses conidia (F-group) were harvested from a 35 day old culture, it is believed that all conidia of matured culture are not always warty.The breadth of conidia are fairly constant, as cited by de Vries, and the rough shape of the conidia, namely globose, subglobose, elongate etc. were indicated by the freqency curve of the ratio of length to breadth (Fig. 3-12). In either case, it is necessary to describe the cultivation periods for the description of the size and the shape of conidia, since the length of certain conidia show considerable variation during cultivation.
