We studied on thei nfluence of the preserving conditions upon the degeneration of the sporeless lactobacilli which were preserved in the several dried culture media, and then on the preliminary tests for the recovering of the degenerated bacteria. The results were as follows : 1) Among the dried culture media used, soil was the most excellent and fullers earth and saw-dust were not suitable.2) In 10% moisture of the soil culture media the bacteria declined within 30 days and could not be preserved more than 90 days and in 7% moisture of the media they degenerated after 90 days, but in less than 5% moisture they could be preserved without degeneration during 120 day.3) The preservation of the bacteria at 5〜10℃ was better than at 20〜25℃ and it was thought to be the best that the temperature of the preservation was so cold that the bacterial cells did not freeze.4) The degenerated bacteria could be recovered by repeating inoculation several times in liquid or slant culture media, and the former was better than the latter. As the culture media koji-extract enriched with yeast-extract was more excellent than koji extract alone.
