To the mixture of the solutions of benzolsufohydroxomic acid and aldehyde, each in absolute alcohol, we added NaOH to turn it thereby to basic. Thus, we made synthetic hydroxamic acid which corresponds to aldehyde used and measured its Rf.We could separate and identify aliphatic C_1,C_2,C_3,C_4,and C_5 aldehydes, and vanilin, veratrumic aldehyde and benzaldehyde from aromatic group, and furfural and methylfurfural from heterocyclic group.
