Seasonal growth of Paulownia was measured by Banddendrometers everyday, which gave about 80-300 g/cm^2 pressure on the stem, and the results were as follows;1. The seasonal growth began from the end of March to the beginning of April.2. There were two maxima, on the current weekly increment curve, at the beginning of June and at the middle of July. The maximum daily diameter growth amounted to 0.39 mm in average.3. The rate of growth slowed down sharply at the end of July. I believe that the summer-wood is formed on and after this changing point.4. Thickenning ended by the middle of October.Comparing these above with the results of the observation with the Precision Dendrometer (abbr. P. D.) devised by Reineke, I find;5. The record of Band-dendrometer (abbr. B. D.) shows an about 1-2 week delay in comparison with that of P. D.6. The growth curve of B. D. is just like a staircase for the reason of the friction of the band and the elasticity of the barks.7. The growth comes down to a minimum at the beginning of July. P. D. does not show this minimum. It is not concidered that this slow down is due to the meteorological condions.8. Total increment amounted only to sixty percent of P. D.These differences are mostly due to the pressure on the surface of stem caused by the spring of B. D. Therefore, B. D. of this type is not suitable for a dendrometer as an accurate recorder of growth of a tree.
