The writer has already reported the fact that the blood has excellent gluing strength and water-resistance as a gluing material of wood, and he is now carrying out the experiments on the gluing strength and water-resistance of the blood-corpuscle glue, and on the relation to the gluing strength of the gluing temperatures, time of the hot press, powers of the pressure, amounts of the spreading glue, the proportion of glue and water, times after the spreading, times after the preparation of glue for use, the ratio of alkali to glue, and so on.This paper deals with the above-mentioned experiments.As the samples, the blood-corpuscle of horses was used in this experiments.The experiment was done with three sheets of rotary-cut veneers of birch, each having the thickness of 1.5mm.In preparating glue, warm water (40℃) was added to the dry bloodcorpuscle, and it was left one hour before the other ingredients were added. Other ingredients were then added accoding to the formula, and the whole was stirred up until a uniform glue was produced.The results obtained from the experiments are as follow : -(1) The blood-corpuscle glue is obtained with better result by adding NaOH and (NH)_4OH of 2〜4 per cent of the dry blood-corpuscle glue by weight.(2) When the ply-wood is made of three sheets of rotary-cut veneers of birch, each having the thickness of 1.5mm., the following conditions are necessary.(a) The time of press : 5-10 minutes. (b) The tempertures of gluing : 100-110℃. (c) Pressure : 10-20 kg per square centimeter.(3) The adequate amount of glue is from 0.015 to 0.025 grams per square centimeter.(4) The proper amount of water to glue is from 1 to 2.5 parts to 1 part of blood-corpuscle by weight.(5) The blood-corpuscle glue shows the highest gluing strength in 4-5 hours after the glue mixed.(6) Within 20 minutes after being spread on veneers, the gluing strength of the blood-corpuscle glue dose not decrease.(7) The water-resistance of the blood-corpuscle glue seems to be increased by the addition of cuprous salt, especially CuCl.(8) The affective period of dry blood-corpuscle glue is fairly long.
