• In a germination test of the seeds of six tropical dry-deciduous forest tree species, namely, Acacia catechu, Albizzia lebbek, Bauhinia variegata, Cassia fistula, Leucaena leucocephala, and Wrightia tinctoria, it was found that the excisedembryo test was a very fast method for determining the seed viability of these species as compared with the laboratory/field germination test. Normally, the maximum percentage of germination is the same by both methods, but it was obtained much sooner with excised embryos in all the tested species.
