• Shoot tips were harvested from a 15-year-old red horse chestnut (Aesculus x carnea HAYNE) tree and were cultured on a modified MS (MURASHIGE and SKOOG) medium with various BAP (6-benzylaminopurine) and IBA (3-indolebutyric acid) concentrations. Shoot tips placed on the modified MS medium with 5μM of BAP and 0.1μM of IBA developed multiple shoots after 32 days of culture. The multiple shoots were transferred to a modified MS medium with 1μM of BAP and 10μM of GA_3 (gibberellic acid) which produced numerous shoots on the medium. The shoots were transplanted to a rooting medium which was modified WPM (Woody Plant Medium) with 0.1μM of IBA and activated charcoal. Fifty-three percent of the shoots rooted during the 60 days after transplanting to the rooting medium.
