Large magneto-optical properties are highly desirable in isolators and such devices. Recently, magneto-optical Faraday effects have been greatly enganced by localization of light and use of the nonlinear magneto-optical Kerr effect. This paper describes cases of the engancement of magneto-optical effects;(1)the case in which ultrafine magnetic particles are used;(2)the case in shich localization of light is used, and(3)the case in which a grating is used with a magnetic thin film. The enhancement of the magneto-optical effects in these three cases is over 50 times that in other cases. The total rotation angle 34 degrees at kG with a 100-nm magnetic thin film.
