We discuss a new concept for a wide-frequency-range noise filter based upon multiple reflection in serially connected LC distributed-constant delay lines. One LC distributed delay line in a matched circuit propagates the signal without energy loss. A group of delay lines with mismatched connections, however, shows attenuation. To study this phenomenon, we measured models made of coaxial cables. Several zero attenuation points, having reflection lengths proportional to whole numbers were observed. A large attenuated region (-5to-15dB) was observed in the 200 MHz to 6 GHz range. This result indicates a possibility of noise filters using delay lines with small values of inductive and capacitive distributed constants. A high-power (2000 V, 150 A) noise filter based on the principle was designed and evaluated. The high-power filter showed more than 20 dB attenuation in The 50 MHz to 6 GHz frequency range.
