We propose a new BRDF measurement using light simulation instead of optical measuring apparatus or computing from theoretical model. The BRDF of Morpho butterfly wings is measured. Nano scale microstructures owe to brilliant iridescent coloring. A microstructure model of Morpho butterfly is built for simulation. NSFD that has been qualified to be more accurate than widely known FDTD is applied as simulation algorithm to solve light wave equation. The new measurement is proved to be efficient according to comparing simulation result with the optical measuring apparatus result. The measurement can also be used as a general approach to measure other BRDF of any material.
